2018 Impreza Adds Safety, Power

The 2018 Subaru Impreza is built on the new Subaru Global Platform and features more technology standard to complement the comfort, convenience, safety and power of previous models. And it’s only $100 more than the 2017 model.

Under the Hood

Subaru engineers equipped the 2018 Impreza with a 2-liter four-cylinder BOXER engine with direct fuel injection that gives it 152 horsepower — a 2 percent increase over previous models.

The engine is teamed with either a five-speed manual transmission or a Lineartronic continuously variable automatic transmission with seven-speed manual shift mode. Manual shifting with the automatic transmission is controlled via steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Torque-vectoring all-wheel drive is standard on all models and improves not only handling and cornering, but safety as well by preventing wheel slippage and keeping the vehicle on the driver’s intended course.

Comfort and Convenience

Technology is packed into the 2018 Impreza. The infotainment system has a 6.5-inch display on basic models and up to an 8-inch display on premium models. Serving as the control for the audio system is just part of what it does. It syncs seamlessly with smartphones for hands-free voice calls, audio streaming and mobile app integration. An optional premium Harman/Kardon audio system gives near theater-quality sound.

Other comfort amenities include a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, push-button start and a 60/40 split folding rear seat for a variety of passenger seating and cargo carrying configurations.

Subaru designers built the 2018 Impreza on the automaker’s new global platform that increases agility and crash absorption. Also new for 2018 are headlights that activate whenever the windshield wipers are turned on, ensuring that the vehicle can be seen by other drivers better even in rainy conditions.

The Subaru Starlink system includes safety features such as SOS emergency assistance, automatic crash notification and a monthly vehicle health report.

A full set of airbags is complemented by three-point safety belts to protect occupants in the event of a collision. There available EyeSight system features adaptive cruise control, automatic pre-collision braking, lane departure warning and sway warning.
