Subaru Lineup Earns 9 Safety Awards In Annual

Subaru received top ratings for nine of its 2021 models in annual, independent tests of vehicle safety.

The Institute for Highway Safety awarded “Top Safety Pick+” to 2021 Crosstrek Hybrid, Forester, Legacy, Outback and Ascent. Impreza sedan and five-door, Crosstrek and WRX earned Top Safety Pick.

IIHS is an independent agency focused on reducing injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes. It began annual evaluations for Top Safety Pick began in the 2006 model year and introduced its Top Safety Pick+ in 2013.

“Our goal is to provide customers with vehicles made to the highest standards of safety, comfort and value,” said Thomas Doll, president of Subaru of America.  “We are extremely proud to receive nine IIHS awards for our 2021 model lineup.”

Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ identify the best vehicle choices for crash worthiness across size categories during a given year. IIHS uses the “plus” designation for models with “good” or “acceptable” headlights across all trim levels and packages.

All nine Subaru models earned the top rating of “Good” in all six crashworthiness performance evaluations. Each vehicle also achieved “Superior” ratings for Front Crash Prevention tests.

All models also received a ‘Superior’ rating in front crash prevention when equipped with Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology employ cameras to identify lane markings and the preceding vehicle.

The Lane Centering feature assists with centering Subaru vehicles within the travel lane. Lane Keep Assist technology automatically engages to help prevent the vehicle from veering out of its lane.

Subaru has complied an impressive streak of safety performance reviews. The Crosstrek Hybrid has earned the safety plus designation for three consecutive years.

TSP awards have been granted to Forester for 15 consecutive years, Legacy for 16 consecutive years, Outback for 13 consecutive years and Ascent for four consecutive years.

The awards also market a milestone for the Subaru brand:

  • All models received a ‘Superior’ rating in front crash prevention when equipped with Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology.
